Investigation continues after one arrest.
The Secret Service confirmed a vehicle drove into an exterior gate of the White House during rush hour on Monday, colliding with the gate just before 6:00 p.m. EST. The Secret Service launched an investigation into the incident, joined by the District of Columbia Police, Fire Department, and Emergency Medical Services to determine the cause of the crash.
“The driver has been taken into custody & we are investigating the cause & manner of the collision,” Secret Service Spokesperson Anthony Guglielmi stated shortly after the incident. The involved vehicle was cleared by the D.C. Police, and no injuries have been reported yet. Spokesperson Gugliemi added that traffic around the area will be impeded as the investigation remains ongoing.
